TEEN FOUNDATIONS OF RESONANCE INTENSIVE

Foundations of Resonance is a focused acting program designed to help actors move beyond performing lines and begin thinking as the character.

Through script analysis, character perspective work, inner monologue training, the moment before, and scene study, actors develop a process for building the character’s inner life and allowing performances to emerge naturally.

Instead of asking “How should I say this line?” actors learn to ask “What is the character thinking that causes this line?”

That shift changes everything.

Because the class size is intentionally small, each actor receives individualized coaching and feedback during exercises and scene work.

In this work, the actor provides the body and voice, but the character provides the mind.

What Actors Will Learn

When actors focus on the character’s thinking, many familiar acting goals—truthfulness, presence, and emotional connection—begin to organize themselves naturally.

Students apply the core techniques described in the Approach section and practice using them in rehearsal and scene work.

These techniques include:

Script Analysis
Understanding the circumstances, relationships, objectives, obstacles, and stakes of the scene.

Character Perspective
Exploring how the character experiences the world and what events mean to them personally.

Inner Monologue
Developing the character’s ongoing stream of thought so the actor remains alive between lines.

The Moment Before
Identifying the thought and emotional state the character carries into the scene.

Listening and Reaction
Learning to listen in character so the other actor’s words genuinely change thoughts and behavior.

Memorization and Mental Freedom
Using memorization techniques that connect each line to the character’s thinking so the actor’s mind stays inside the scene.

Scene Study
Applying the full framework to scripted scenes so actors can experience how truthful thinking produces natural performance.

Medium-Specific Acting
Exploring how these techniques apply differently in film, television, and theater.

Acting the Song
Actors working on musical theatre material explore how songs function as the character’s inner monologue and apply the same tools used in scene work to make the song truthful and dramatically grounded.

Who This Intensive Is For?

Ages 10 to 18

This intensive is ideal for actors who want to:

• build real acting technique
• strengthen auditions and scene work
• learn how to stop showing emotion and start living truthfully
• develop performances that feel natural on camera and alive on stage
• gain confidence rooted in craft rather than performance tricks

Weekly Focus

Week 1
Script Analysis and Scene Truth

Actors learn how to break down a script so they understand exactly what is happening in the scene. Students identify circumstances, objectives, relationships, and beats so the performance grows from the truth of the script.

Week 2
Character Perspective and Personal Meaning

Actors explore how the character experiences their world. Students examine beliefs, fears, needs, and motivations so the scene becomes personal to the character rather than intellectual.

This week also introduces Resonant Exercises, a set of focused training exercises designed to help actors experience what it feels like when the character’s thinking begins to drive the moment. These exercises strengthen character perspective, inner monologue, and truthful response so actors can begin working from the inside out.

Week 3
Inner Monologue and The Moment Before

Actors develop the character’s thought process and identify the moment before that ignites the scene. Students learn to enter the scene already living inside the character’s mind so the first line becomes inevitable.

Week 4
Listening Based Scene Work and Resonance

Actors apply the full framework in scene study. Students practice remaining inside the character’s thinking while listening, reacting, and speaking so the performance grows naturally from the inside out.

What Students Leave With

By the end of the intensive, actors will have:

• a repeatable process for breaking down a scene
• tools for building character thinking and inner life
• a clear method for creating the moment before
• stronger listening and truthful reactions
• more natural and resonant line delivery
• greater confidence grounded in technique
